Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation
Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal Organization that administers a comprehensive health care delivery system for 58 rural communities in southwest Alaska. Each of the communities in our service area is home to a federally-recognized Tribe, whose governing council has authorized YKHC to provide health services on behalf of the federal Indian Health Service (IHS). YKHC’s health care delivery system includes community clinics, sub-regional clinics in five of the area’s larger communities, a regional hospital, dental and optometry services, behavioral health services, substance abuse counseling and treatment, health promotion and disease prevention programs, and environmental health services. Our HR TEAM supports a current employee base of over 1500 health care professionals and support staff. There are currently 19 HR professionals on our YKHC-HR TEAM. The graphical area in which we service is roughly the size of the state of Oregon or close to 75,000 square miles.
Our HR team is dedicated to the support and delivery of health care to remote locations which are not accessible by motor vehicle as our villages do not have any roadways. Our hub of Bethel AK which houses our 55-bed hospital, as well as our various clinics and other specialty health care facilities such as behavioral health (treatment centers), long term care, elder care, optical, pharmacy, and traditional healing is also not accessible via the road system here in Alaska. We rely greatly upon air transportation and during winter snow machine, four-wheelers, and ice roads (frozen rivers) villages. We even, on occasion, use dog sleds as a mode of transportation. Our HR team has achieved a great deal this past year. We successfully implemented pre-employment drug testing, vastly improved our recruiting efforts, assisted in implementing a new and improved HRIS timekeeping and HR platform, improved our employee benefit offerings, revised our employee handbook, implemented new training and development initiatives and assisted in the construction and staffing of a new hospital/clinic(s).
