Mr. Berkow directs The Advisory Board Company's research on nursing, human resources, and other strategic issues. Prior to joining The Advisory Board Company, Mr. Berkow served as a health care attorney with Kalkines, Arky, Zall, and Bernstein for hospitals and health systems in the greater New York City area. His legal practice included matters ranging from regulatory compliance to system building to strategic planning.

A business journalist for 20 years before entering the consulting field full-time, she brings the storytelling perspective of workplace passion and problem-solving to clients who value the transformative power of engaged employees throughout the organization.
Martha is also the author and co-author of many books on the subject of employee engagement and career management, including the immensely popular HR From the Heart, with Libby Sartain. She has also spent over a decade interviewing successful HR leaders in such companies as Intuit, Hewlett Packard, Gap, Inc., IBM, Marriott, etc. (She herself has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Miami Herald, San Jose Mercury News, on ABC News Now, CNN, and on NPR’s Morning Edition.)
As a special project exclusively for ASHHRA, she will be spending 2010 interviewing HR leaders who love their work in health care. And as part of her presentation, she will be showing a video of our colleagues, produced especially for this conference.
