Legislative and regulatory initiatives that will be discussed include legislative proposals pending in Congress and actions undertaken by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB or Board), such as:

  • The status of the prior Administration’s proposal to adjust the salary categories for exempt and non-exempt employees under the Fair Labor Standards Act
  • The status of the EEOC’s proposed new EEO-1 report and the status of the Commission’s previously adopted wellness regulations
  • Joint employer judicial and regulatory developments will be reviewed as will the potential impact of the composition of the new NLRB on employer policies and procedures including access to email and wording of employer handbooks and policies.

P2b - Toughness, Power and Your Personal Brand

  • Location: 608

  • Date: Saturday September 16
  • Time: 10:30 AM-12:30 PM

In the era of hyper-competition for talent, internal corporate pressure, lagging leadership skill sets, and a disconnect between leadership experience and application to the modern world, the development of a personal brand is essential.

Leveraging an understanding of what a personal brand is, how the current digital tools should be utilized as part of that brand, and ensuring the appropriate content strategy is implemented will separate the progressive leader from the many who simply cling to the status quo.

The talent our organizations seek to attract pays close attention to who they will be working for; and, the absence of a leader’s personal brand is a misstep that most organizations can ill afford to make.

This session will do a deep dive into what personal brands are, how a successful hospital human resources executive developed his brand, and explore the digital tools necessary to begin building your brand immediately.

  • Understand the critical role personal brand plays in the development of contemporary leadership
  • Learn the digital tools and how to use them as part of a leader’s personal brand strategy
  • Understand how content is the key piece of any personal brand and how to effectively design and implement a content strategy.

P1b - Reality Based Leadership – Challenging HR Conventional Wisdom

  • Location: 606

  • Date: Saturday September 16
  • Time: 02:00 PM-04:00 PM

We are certainly in challenging times in our business world today.  We have been in challenging times in the past and we will be faced with challenging times again at some point in the future.  Here’s the reality check - The fact that times are challenging is not the source of our pain in our businesses.  The source of our pain is the absence of great leadership based in reality.

And yet, in HR, we have worked on leadership for over fifty years with dismal outcomes.   We must become willing to admit that the ways in which we have taught our leaders to lead over the years is simply not working.  These times are calling for a new type of leader.  One who can bring peace, sanity and results back to the workplace!

We need leaders who are willing and able to recreate mindsets-their own and the mindsets of others - in order to change circumstances and lead in a new and revolutionary way.  And the revolution begins with a few good leaders practicing Reality-Based Leadership.

A Reality-Based Leader is one who is able to quickly see and radically accept the reality of the situation, conserve precious team energy, and use that energy instead to impact reality.  Better yet, a great Reality-Based Leader anticipates the upcoming changes and capitalizes on the opportunity inherent in the situation without drama or defense.

This session will provide HR professionals with an innovative and revolutionary new look at their roles. Cy will rock your HR group as she teaches the principles of her wave of   Reality-Based LeadershipTM.  By challenging the conventional wisdom many in HR have accepted to be best practices, HR leaders can begin to re-evaluate the work they have done to date in their companies and work to transform their tools, programs, and philosophies into ones that actually work and that leaders will actually use, thereby ditching the drama, returning sanity to the workplace and turning excuses into results.

  • Identify the reasons the current leadership model is failing from an organizational perspective
  • Understand the principles of Reality-Based Leadership TM
  • Learn how to apply the principles to your work place and in your coaching opportunities throughout the organization.

    • Cy Wakeman, President & Founder | Keynote Speaker | Leadership Expert, Reality-Based Leadership
