Welcome to the 43rd Annual ASHHRA Conference and Exposition Web site.
I’m thrilled to invite you to experience the many exciting opportunities available to you at this year’s conference.
You’ve told us in the past that one of the reasons you come to the ASHHRA conference is to network with colleagues. This year, the networking begins early with the Regional Breakfasts, scheduled before the Opening Ceremony on Sunday morning. Whether you are a newcomer or conference veteran, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to meet your new regional consultant, get an update on your region’s happenings, and recognize award-winning colleagues.
As always, the focal point of the conference is learning. This year, learning sessions— designed specifically for healthcare HR professionals who want to step up their own leadership capabilities—cover the gamut of best practices, proven methodologies, and the latest healthcare trends.
To keep you motivated from start to finish, the conference will feature three talented and inspiring keynote speakers: We will kick off with healthcare expert Quint Studer, author of the book, Hardwiring Excellence; Rick Wade of the American Hospital Association will join us for the Business Meeting Luncheon; and Max Brown will wrap up the conference by sharing his “Carrot Culture” recognition approach. Read more about each speaker, and all the superb conference activities by going to the “Schedule ” page on this site.
I encourage you to review the Web site and register early. And before you know it, I’ll be seeing you in Anaheim.

After a successful inaugural year, the Centre for Excellence will once again be a featured part of the ASHHRA exposition. This year, the Centre offers attendees more opportunities to engage in knowledge-sharing conversations with ASHHRA committees, board members, and colleagues. Sit with colleagues in a cozy conversation pit to discuss advocacy issues with the AHA experts, local topics with your regional consultants, and opportunities for learning and teaching with members of ASHHRA committees. Pre-Conference Special Interest Sessions
Two special learning tracks are featured as Saturday pre-conference sessions. The Healthcare HR Basics Boot Camp Track, facilitated by ASHHRA Regional Consultants, gives new-to-the-profession HR practitioners a basic overview of HR processes, competencies, and best practices. The Healthcare HR Leader Track challenges seasoned HR professionals to go to the next level of their HR leadership journey through experiential learning. A two-day Healthcare HR Leader Track offers participants the option to attend Quint Studer’s Opening Ceremony keynote address on Sunday.
Call to Serve the Community
The ASHHRA conference outreach activity embodies the HR Leader Model core competency of Community Citizenship in the most heartfelt way because it involves children. Attendees can give back to the local Anaheim community by contributing to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Radio Lollipop Program. Radio Lollipop, a hospital-based radio program promoting the healing power of play through music—provides smiles and laughter to children at a time when they need it most. Opportunities to donate will be available at the Opening Ceremony and during exhibit hall activities leading up to the Monday evening outreach event.
Keynote Speakers
Quint Studer of the Studer Group and author of Hardwiring Excellence, kicks off your HR leadership journey by sharing his passion for excellence and giving you tools to engage employees’ passion for doing purposeful and worthwhile work. During the Business Meeting Luncheon, Rick Wade of the American Hospital Association shares the Community Connections story, reaffirming your organization’s role as a strong community resource. The journey continues in the closing session, as keynoter Max Brown imparts his proven methods to motivating employees with simple and effective recognition programs.
Panel Discussions
On the last day of the conference, enjoy a stimulating early morning panel discussion learning session. Practitioners from healthcare and other industries share experiences, stories, and best practices in three important HR arenas: legislative activities, workforce diversity, and great places to work.
