Regional Consultant Position Description

2008 Regional Consultant Elections  
Regions 2, 4, 6 and 8 hold elections this year for regional consultants who will serve in 2009-2010.  If you are interested in serving your region, please fill out the ASHHRA Volunteer Interest Form and submit it to Shirley Armistead at sarmistead@aha.org anytime before July 15, 2008.

Summary

Nine regional consultants elected through regional elections which are managed by the national ASHHRA office – serve as the liaisons between ASHHRA and regional/local chapters.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Serves on a membership and chapter services committee that, in partnership with designated ASHHRA staff, develop programs for regional/local membership.

• Provides feedback on the needs and desires of the regions to the ASHHRA office; act as the “eyes” and “ears” of members and non-members in the region.

• Advocates the value of ASHHRA services and programs to regional/local chapters. Value for local/regional chapters includes: leveraging the national office for networking; greater educational content; access to more professional resources, products, and resources at a reduced rate; and advocacy of HR healthcare issues at a national and state level.

• Works with regions to develop targeted strategies to increase membership in ASHHRA.

• Educates regions on the benefits of national professional awards and recognition offered by ASHHRA; offer coaching in the preparation of award submissions.

• Identifies ASHHRA national and chapter members worthy of recognition.

• Mentors ASHHRA affiliated chapter leaders.

• Serves as a clearinghouse for information and resources to members, such as best practices, position openings, potential candidates.

• Assists in identifying funding sources and sponsors for the annual conference, leadership conference and other programs, as needed.

• Attends annual conference and other national events, if feasible.

• Attends semi-annual meeting of regional consultants to discuss best practices, membership objectives, and interact with board members.

• Conducts annual self-evaluation to determine the achievement of objectives and overall effectiveness.

• Chairs a regional leadership team(RLT) that meets at least quarterly either by a regional conference call or in person.

• Encourages members of healthcare human services groups within the region to affiliate with ASHHRA.

• *Visits each chapter within the region at least once during term of office. Other duties of region consultants may include: presentations on key issues to the BOD (perhaps inviting 1-2 region consultants on a rotational basis to attend a board meeting; participation on ad hoc board committees relating to membership recruitment and retention strategies; etc.

*Attending chapter meeting needs prior approval.  Please submit speaker submission form.  Expenses will be covered if attendance enhances the ASHHRA/Chapter relationship.  Honorarium from chapter should be applied prior to submission of expenses.  If attending a chapter meeting for professional development, expenses will not be covered.
