Regional Consultant Role
I am proud to serve as your ASHHRA Region 4 Consultant.  For the last several years, I have been the director of human resources for Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.  I have been active in ASHHRA for over 10 years serving as TSHHRA president and then board member for many years.  The consultant role serves as the liaison for our region to ASHHRA leadership.  The Consultant serves as the eyes and ears of the members and non-members in the region to meet the needs of the region.  The nine Regional Consultants serve on the membership and chapter services committee and receive applications for the annual ASHHRA awards and serve as the selection committee.

As the regional consultant, I was charged with setting goals for our region:

1. Educate the region on the value of ASHHRA membership via emails, phone calls, and presentations at meetings.
2. Visit each region 4 chapter at least once during the term using the ASHHRA branded presentation.
3. Work with chapter leaders to increase submissions for ASHHRA awards to better recognize the great HR leaders in region 4.
4. Communicate via email and conference call to region 4 members to encourage volunteerism on ASHHRA committees and task forces.
5. Conduct region 4 conference calls quarterly.
6. Review effectiveness in role annually against region 4 goals.

I hope that all of you can work with me to achieve these goals for our region.

Region 4 Achievements in 2007
The following region 4 members were recognized at the ASHHRA conference in Anaheim:

Paul Guy Mentorship Award  -Marty Keith, Tenn.
HR Leader Award  -Karen Burks, Tenn.
Outstanding Chapter Achievement Awards  -Joey Boyce, S.C.
   -Christie Kline, Tenn.
Outstanding Chapter Officer  -Sandi Sartin, Tenn.
Communication Award  -Brad Pope, Tenn.
Chapter Management  - South Carolina – 4
  Stars
   -Tennessee –  4 Stars

I hope that each chapter will strive to have a submission for each award for 2008.  It is a great way to recognize the outstanding human resource professionals in your state and to showcase best practices in human resources.  Award submissions are due in June, so please make sure you are discussing the awards during your state meetings.  If you need any help with your submissions, please give me a call.  Tennessee always tries to have someone nominated for each award to increase our chances of having Tennessee winners.  South Carolina had a strong showing with Chapter Management and Chapter Achievement Awards.  The regional consultants meet in July to select the winners.  Of course, we do not get to judge the submissions for our own states.
